 Huawei and 5G in the UK
Despite Trump's veto, British operators continue to work together with Huawei to build their 5G networks. The Guardian editorial staff also spoke about the collaboration between the four main UK telcos and the Chinese company.
The partnership involves the networks present in six of the seven cities where Vodafone has already activated its 5G networks.
UK and USA with Canada, New Zealand and Australia, are part of the Five Eyes group, an international alliance dealing with intelligence and surveillance issues. So a different position on this issue can make the relationship between the UK and other countries critical. In fact, Australia and New Zealand have aligned on US positions and Canada has even facilitated the capture of Ren Zhengfei's daughter, founder and owner of Huawei.
Internationally, despite the explicit request by the United States not to choose Huawei as a partner, the situation remains open. In Italy, for example, the latest official statements by the Ministry of Economic Development have reiterated that there is no prohibition either for Huawei or for ZTE. Even Russia has opted not to impose any constraint. |
